Welcome to the NUCES Network of Libraries

The NUCES (FAST) Network of Libraries serves as a dynamic knowledge hub for students, faculty, and researchers across our campuses in Chiniot-Faisalabad, Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Multan, and Peshawar. Together, these libraries support the academic and research mission of the university by providing access to high-quality resources, digital services, and collaborative learning spaces. Our Libraries Across Campuses

The NUCES Network of Libraries is present at all six campuses — Chiniot-Faisalabad, Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Multan, and Peshawar. Together, they provide equitable access to resources, expertise, and learning spaces across Pakistan.
Collections & Learning Spaces:

Together, the NUCES libraries provide access to more than books, journals, and a growing range of digital resources including research databases, e-books, and multimedia materials.

Each campus library also offers modern learning spaces tailored to student needs:
  • Group Study Rooms for teamwork and collaborative projects.
  • Quiet Zones for focused individual study.
  • Computer Workstations & Wi-Fi Access for digital learning.
  • Comfortable seating with a total capacity of seats across the network.

  • Interlibrary Loan (ILL):   Sharing resources across campuses so users can access materials beyond their home library.

Library Policies & Guidelines

The NUCES Network of Libraries is committed to providing equitable, fair, and efficient services across all campuses. To maintain a productive academic environment, the following policies and procedures are in place:

Circulation Policy

Outlines borrowing privileges, loan periods, renewals, holds, and overdue fines to ensure fair access to library resources.

Donation Policy

Sets out the criteria and procedures for accepting donated materials, ensuring contributions align with academic and collection priorities.

Collection Development Policy

Defines the principles and guidelines for selecting, acquiring, and managing library materials to support the University’s mission in learning, teaching, and research.

Fair Use Policy

Explains the principles of fair use regarding copyrighted materials, including ethical and legal responsibilities in using print and electronic resources.

Group Study Rooms Policy

Provides guidelines for booking and using group study rooms, ensuring equitable access and responsible use of collaborative spaces.

Lost and Found SOP

Details the process for reporting, claiming, and handling lost or found items within the library premises.

Policy for Alumni

Graduates of NUCES can also access certain library services, including reading spaces, print materials, and workstation use. Borrowing privileges are extended upon deposit of a security fee.

Library Services

The NUCES Network of Libraries provides a wide range of services across all six campuses — Chiniot-Faisalabad, Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Multan, and Peshawar to support the University’s mission of learning, teaching, and research. These services ensure equitable access to resources and facilities for the entire FAST community.

Print Collection

The libraries collectively maintain an extensive collection of print books, theses, project reports, journals, magazines, and newspapers. Collection development is a continuous process, carried out with active faculty involvement to ensure that resources meet both teaching and research needs.

Online Public Access Catalogue

Users can access the union catalog of all NUCES libraries through the integrated OPAC:

Through OPAC, users can:
  • Search the bibliographic details of all resources.
  • Check the availability of books across campuses.
  • Manage their personal accounts (borrowed items, due dates, fines).
  • Renew and reserve materials online.

Mobile App

The OPAC is also available through the Insignia mobile app for Android and iOS.

Users can:
  • Renew borrowed items.
  • Place holds on books.
  • Manage their library accounts anytime, anywhere.
  • Access services via Wi-Fi or mobile data.

Off-Campus Access

Faculty across all campuses have remote access to e-resources via Virtual Private Network (VPN). Plans are underway to extend this service to MS/PhD students and eventually undergraduate students.

These include:
  • Renew borrowed items.
  • Place holds on books.
  • Manage their library accounts anytime, anywhere.
  • Access services via Wi-Fi or mobile data.

Interlibrary Loan- ILL

NUCES libraries provide resource sharing across campuses. Users can place requests via email, and materials are delivered within 24 hours when available.

The network also connects with:
  • 25 libraries through PASTIC Islamabad.
  • 20+ libraries via HEC partnerships.

Desktop Computers & Printing

  • Desktop Computers & Printing
  • Libraries provide desktop computers for accessing OPAC, e-resources, assignments, and University applications (e.g., Slate, Flex). Printing and scanning facilities are also available, with quota-based printing under consideration.

Learning Spaces

Across campuses, the libraries provide:

  • Group study rooms with whiteboards and charging points.
  • Quiet study zones and individual carrels.
  • Meeting rooms with multimedia facilities.
  • Hundreds of seats for collaborative and independent study.

Bibliography & Reference Management

Libraries assist students and researchers with citation styles and reference management tools such as Zotero, EndNote, and Mendeley. Information literacy sessions help users learn proper referencing for assignments, theses, and dissertations.

Circulation Services

Borrowing and returning resources is quick and efficient. Users can also:

  • View their borrowing history and due dates.
  • Renew items online or via the mobile app.
  • Place holds on desired resources.

Orientation Sessions

Orientation sessions are organized for new students to introduce them to library resources, services, and policies, motivating them to make full use of the library’s facilities.

Information Literacy Sessions

Workshops and sessions are regularly conducted to train users in:

  • Effective use of OPAC and e-journals.
  • Reference management and citation styles.
  • Literature review and thesis writing.
  • Using Turnitin for originality checks.
  • Research productivity tools (RSS, databases, eBooks).

Alumni Services

Graduates of NUCES can also access certain library services, including reading spaces, print materials, and workstation use. Borrowing privileges are extended upon deposit of a security fee.

Research Support Service

Libraries assist faculty and researchers with:

  • Identifying quality publication venues (impact factor, indexed journals, HEC categories).
  • Tracking and sharing scholarly publications produced by the University.
  • Guidance on avoiding predatory publishers and promoting open access.
  • Assessing the impact of research outputs.

Turnitin Service/Similarity Check

Libraries administer Turnitin accounts for faculty and students, including:

  • Generating similarity reports.
  • Account management (creation, password resets).
  • Processing paper deletion requests (via faculty recommendation).
